Save your money! I had in about 7 years ago. Loved it. So I got another in. Works great and quieter than my last one. However, I am very disappoint in the flimsy waste receptacles. The old ones were much better!! Get buying tips about Pet Care Companies delivered to your inbox. Thank you, you have successfully subscribed to our newsletter! Purchased brand new 4 months ago and have had continuous problems. Rake stops in middle. Continuously runs. Have to shut off and turn on again. I have emailed customer service with no response. I have called their number. Told I had to be transferred after waiting about 5 minutes to get a message saying they are closed please leave a number. I have worked in the pet industry for 30 years of which 21 years was owning my own store.

I cannot believe how this product has taken a down spiral. Buyers beware. The waste receptacles that dont have the circle spots to fit directly in the Litter Maid box dont fit at all! They are too bulky and dont stay in. When the poop is raked into the receptacle it lays directly on the lid and piles up and smells.

Horrible change to the lids! If I would have known it wouldnt fit I wouldnt have bought it. I have to cut one part of the lid to make it fit just a little to wear. I can duct tape it so it stays and closes when the poop is dropped into it.

If I could give it a 0 star I would. I bought many product like litter. My experience is that when my cats use the literals it does not clean up after them and it's not that old 9 months old. I also don't appreciate the basket not fitting properly and the lid does not close because the collection basket is slightly long.

Be sure receptacle corners are inserted in all the way. Make sure that the waste receptacle is under the 5 tabs. There should be no gap between the unit and the waste receptacle. Attach the waste receptacle lid by inserting the push tabs into the round holes. To secure press on positions indicated. Be sure lid edges are under the cover tabs. We recommend avoiding contact with waste material. Wear rubber or latex gloves when handling used disposable waste receptacle.

Depress the two push tabs in the waste receptacle compartment cover. Detach the disposable waste receptacle lid from the waste receptacle compartment cover. This unit is great for multi-cat households, although it may mean that you need to clean it a little more frequently.

Cats of any size and weight can use this unit, as well. Cons: The most outstanding con for the ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box is that itrequires you to buy those pre-filled, disposable crystal litter tray refills on a regular basis. The sides are pretty low, which makes it easier for your cat to scatter litter. Unlike other models, the motor unit is set on a track that run along the outside of the box, which prevents litter from clogging the gears.

The waste receptacle is actually attached to the rake itself, rather than a separate compartment within the box. This means that as the rake scoops up clumps, it flips up and pops the waste into the attached bin, rather than pushing it backwards. The bin is equipped with a trademarked No-Touch Waste Bag and carbon filter that help neutralize odors.

This filter should be changed once a month in a single-cat household, and once a week for a multi-cat household. The company also offers a 1-year warranty from date of purchase.

This means that any clumps that were left up against the opposite wall will remain in the box. Given that the company recommends replacing these bags about once a week for single-cat households, this could really start adding up for people with multiple cats. The rake goes through a sort of catapult motion to deposit waste into the attached waste bin, which can create a decent amount of mess outside the box. To that end, the CatGenie requires both an AC outlet and a plumbing hookup in order to work.

Once the clumps are gone, CatGenie SaniSolution is mixed with water and completely cleanses the bowl, scooper and granules.

When the sanitation cycle is done, a blower dries off the granules. Another pro is that the CatGenie uses washable, reusable granules rather than normal cat litter, which could end up saving you a lot of money later on. One box of granules will last you about months. Cons: The most notable con of the CatGenie is that it requires a connection to a cold water tap — as well as a toilet or washing machine drain — in order to completely dispose of waste. Another con is that the CatGenie is also a pretty sizable unit and makes a lot of noise during cleaning.
