Riggins helped bring home the first of Washington's three Super Bowl titles. Riggins' yard touchdown run to seal the victory will remain one of the most iconic Redskins moments of all time.
Loved for his workmanlike approach to the game, John Riggins' ability to fight through tackles and pick up key first downs earned him the adoration of fans young and old. While many kids grow up idolizing the star quarterback or running back, there are always some who appreciated the sack as much the touchdown pass. If you were one of those kids growing up in D. Manley was drafted in the fifth round but immediately became a terror for opposing quarterbacks.
Even though sacks weren't recorded as an official stat until his second year in the league , Dexter Manley still racked up 91 for his career. He wasn't the fastest or strongest tight end out there, but Cooley's determination and sense of style quickly made him a fan favorite. Chris Cooley gave his fans more access to his life than most by posting videos, photos and updates to his blog, the Cooley Zone.
Whether it was videos about the benefits of carrots or poking fun at Tony Romo , Cooley formed a strong bond with his fans by sharing his personality and wit. Although he hasn't officially retired, it looks as though his playing days are at an end. He signed back on with the Redskins last year but only recorded a single catch. Green played his entire career with the Redskins after being drafted at the end of the first round in Green was known for his speed, but he also possessed great hands, intercepting 54 passes over his illustrious career.
The jersey combination itself is beautiful, but the NFL's absurd rule that teams must wear their normal helmet knocks it down. Still, the helmet alone is enough to make the combination different enough to warrant it being on the list twice. The pants and jersey combination are top shelf. The jersey that started it all for the Redskins, the getup was the first one issued to the team while they were still located in Boston.
Burgundy jerseys with the Redskins' chief logo front and center, it's an understated look that fans would love to see worn in some capacity today. Brought back in for two games, the all-burgundy look is preferable on a game-by-game basis than the Redskins' current combination.
They looked great in the games against the Saints and the Cowboys last season, even if the results weren't. Having these back in rotation is a great thing and hopefully the Redskins will opt to wear them more often than their "color rush" obligations require.
As slick as the all-burgundy uniforms look, the all-whites are even better. They pop off the television screen with the famous helmet on top and the stormtrooper look has been well received when it's been warn. They haven't been worn since the mid's when the likes of Santana Moss and Jason Campbell rocked them, but no one would argue if they were to make a long-awaited return sometime in the near future.
The old fashioned fake leather helmet was such a good look with the throwback uniforms. It's still a combination that splits opinion even today, but it's one the Redskins are unfortunately prevented from wearing today due to NFL rules.
If they could bring it back, they'd be smart to do so with the brown helmet involved. The perfect logo, the perfect combination -- it's just a stunning jersey from top to bottom. As far as throwbacks go, it's hard to argue that this ensemble from the season aren't amongst the best uniforms the Redskins have ever worn.
They haven't been featured in over a decade, but no one would throw a fit if they were to make a return appearance in the future. Typed comments will be lost if you are not signed in.
